Sminu Jindal Charitable Trust (SJCT)

On the inspiration of Sh. OP Jindal, Ms. Sminu Jindal founded a public charitable trust titled ‘Sminu Jindal Charitable Trust’ (SJCT) on 12th August 1994 with larger objectives of social welfare. The Trust undertook various welfare activities for empowering marginalised sections of society until the year 2000 when Ms. Jindal realised that real empowerment and freedom comes with accessible infrastructure and transportations systems.

And thus, in the year 2000, the SJCT started an initiative, ‘Svayam as a portal to provide information to persons with disabilities about health and well being, assistive aids and devices, government policies, schemes  & laws available to empower them.

In 2006, Svayam became a National Centre for Inclusive Environment and began working on promoting accessibility, conducted access audits of built enviornment to help stakeholder achieve accessibility.

In 2010, Svayam began to join likeminded organisation around the world and took to the world stage to advocate accessibility and inclusion and thus it became Svayam - Global Centre for Inclusive Environment’.

Today it is India’s leading accessibility rights organisation with an active international presence. Svayam is working towards mainstreaming people with reduced mobility and those with disabilities with the help of policy intervention, access audits, awareness drives, so that they could equally contribute towards nation building and live barrier-free, safe & dignified lives.
